The ELR has now appointed Lee Kenny as the Acting General Manager for the remainder of 2023.
Lee has worked with the East Lancashire Railway for over 28 years and has been a mainstay in traction and rolling stock, even rising to lead the department 12 years ago.
Chairman of the railway, Mike Kelly, stated:
“Lee has been a leading voice at the ELR community for over 28 years.
“We are in the thick of one of our busiest times of year and Christmas activity this year will be ramping up further with lots of plans for Santa Specials. The Board are confident that at this crucial time the railway is in a safe pair of hands with lee”.
Lee Kenny added: “This is a great opportunity for me personally to have the chance to lead the railway I have known and loved for almost three decades of my life.
“My focus for the remainder of this year is the delivery of key events like our Thomas, Halloween and Santa Trains, and to continue the important work that the ELR does working with key local community partners, the ELR trust partners and our own internal groups and updating our staff and safety processes.
“I am confident we can ride to every challenge as a team. The ELR is fuelled by our passionate, dedicated team of volunteers and staff and we couldn’t survive without their loyal support.”
