The venerable 2874 Trust works to ensure the restoration of the GWR Loco 2874, however they also shine a spotlight on the ladies who work hard across the heritage railway sector to ensure that this important aspect of British history stays alive. This initiative, called “Sisters of Steam”, celebrates the achievements of women working on the railway across the country.
One of our own has long been a member of this august sisterhood. Joanne is deeply involved with every aspect of heritage rail. She is Finance Director and Treasurer at Bury Steam Locomotive Company and the Bury Standard Four Group as well as a steam locomotive Fireman at both the East Lancashire Railway and the Llangollen Railway.
Recently the group celebrated her sterling work by sending her a little keepsake to commemorate her success at representing women in the industry. We hope she enjoys a well-earned brew in that well-earned mug.
