Railway 200 ‘Open-House’ Day

Get ready for an action-packed day on Saturday 18th January, as we celebrate the power and history of our beloved heritage steam and diesel locomotives with ELR’s first Railway 200 event of the year! With a fantastic line-up of activities, exclusive experiences, and something for enthusiasts of all ages, this event promises a memorable journey through railway history for all the family.

Ride our regular Shuttle Service:
Enjoy a scenic shuttle ride between Bury and Summerseat. The service will feature two heritage Mark 1 carriages and the iconic Queen Mary brake van for an authentic vintage rail experience. Donations for travelling on the Queen Mary Brake Van are welcome, with all money raised towards ELR’s Crab Locomotive appeal.

Departures from Bury are hourly starting at 10:00 with a round trip of approximately 25 minutes. The last departure at 15:00 only travels as far as Burrs.

Taster Driver Experience, on payment of a £15.00 supplement, where you can take the controls under expert guidance between Bury Station, Platform 2 and Baron Street Gates, traversing rare track.

Cab Access:
Go ‘behind the scenes’ and take an exclusive look inside the cab of some of our heritage diesel locomotives. We will have 5 or 6 cabs open for visitors to explore.

Mini Model Railway Layout:
Courtesy of the Class 56 Group, this miniature-sized layout showcases model freight locomotives.

Explore the Bury Transport Museum:
Step into the past with a visit to the Transport Museum, showcasing an extensive collection of vintage vehicles and artefacts.

Food & Refreshments
The Trackside Pub (Platform 2) and Buffet (Platforms 3 and 4) will be open throughout the day, serving delicious food and beverage. Relax and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere with fellow enthusiasts and railfans.
